A mark with character

Laser engraving for gifts with a personal story.

Engraving adds a name, message or logo by changing the surface itself. For a thoughtful keepsake or a restrained business detail, make the grain, texture and contrast of the material part of your idea.

Material compatibility and contrast are confirmed for the exact item. Browse each product for current options and availability.

01

Choose a material for the effect you want

Engraving is not a single colour finish. A mark can darken a surface, create a lighter contrast or reveal a coating underneath. The result depends on the material, treatment and artwork, so a sample on a different object is only a reference.

Wood and bamboo

Consider a name, simple illustration or message on a suitable wooden gift or accessory. Grain, knots, adhesives and surface finish can affect the mark. Even within one product type, natural variation can make individual pieces look different.

Slate

Consider the contrast of a light mark against a dark slate coaster or keepsake. Let the texture and edges remain part of the appearance, and give fine lettering enough space to stay legible. Simple shapes can make the most of this contrast.

Leather and suitable coated surfaces

Selected leather articles, confirmed laser-safe patches and some coated objects may suit engraving. The exact composition must be known. For engraved patches on caps, the patch material, attachment and care are considered together. A coating can determine the visible mark; this is not a promise that bare or reflective metals can be engraved.

02

Design for clear contrast

Names, monograms, dates and logos with distinct shapes are useful starting points. A colour logo may need a version that works as one clear mark. Fine gradients and tiny details require particular care because the material does not reproduce a screen image in the same way.

Keep the message readable

Give short text enough breathing room and avoid squeezing several lines into a small area. Supply the exact spelling, accents and punctuation. For several personalised items, make clear which name belongs to each item.

Start with a good source

An original vector logo or clean, high-resolution artwork helps preserve shape. A photo may need specific preparation and a material sample; not every photograph suits every surface.

Place it where it makes sense

Consider the direction the object is held or displayed, and the space around holes, joins and edges. A modest mark on a useful part of the item can be more effective than filling all available space.

03

Confirm the object before committing to the finish

Tell us the intended use, material and desired decoration size. For an object you supply yourself, include a product link and clear photos. Unknown coatings or synthetic materials need identification before a project can be accepted.

A project enquiry is the starting point

Share the item and the message you want it to carry. We check the available area, likely contrast and whether a physical sample is needed. For a set of gifts, include the variations so the whole collection can be considered together.

Care follows the material

Follow the care advice for the exact item and decoration. Engraving does not automatically make wood washable, a coating scratchproof or a gift suitable for food contact. Mention cleaning and handling needs when requesting advice.

Questions before you begin

Will all wooden items look identical?

Natural grain and the surface finish can change the appearance of a mark. A sample establishes a direction, but natural materials can still vary from piece to piece.

Can you engrave metal?

Certain coated surfaces may be considered after assessment. We do not offer a general promise for bare, reflective or precious metals. Share the exact material and finish so we can check the project.

Can I choose the colour of an engraving?

The material and its coating determine the visible contrast. Engraving itself is not full-colour printing. If colour is central to the idea, discuss whether a suitable UV-printed product would work better.

Can every item have a different name?

Ask with the quantity and the list of variations. We will confirm what is possible for the chosen product and how the names should be supplied and checked.
